Work Methodology for Leak Testing Work of Ventilation and VAC Ducts
•Provide signage’s for smoke testing indicating “Smoke Test On-going” prior to start the smoke test.
•Check the installed ducting if it is properly sealed especially on connection and branch ducts.
•Cover and seal all possible openings such as branch duct sidings except on farthest portion of the will serve as the breather.
•Prepare execution instrument such as Fogging machine, test blower, flash light and Install Flexible Duct.
•Check the elevation and orientation of all embedded anchor bolts.
•Generate smoke by fogging machine and start the test blower with air inlet at close position to prevent over pressure on the duct section.
•Slowly open the inlet damper and allows the smoke to pass through the ducting system and goes out to the breather.
•Check the duct possible leakage especially on joints and elbow using flashlight and marked down.
•Note: Do not leave the Test Blower unattended. If it is observed that the duct is already pressurized, throttle the inlet damper of the test blower.
•Turn off the test blower and seals all marked down leakage and allow it to dry before retesting.
•After retesting if there is no more smoke penetration, then it is already free of any leakage.
•Accomplishes the test report together with the inspectors from General Contractor and consultant after the test.
•Submits formal Test Report to customer.
Points to note
•Submits formal result of the Duct leak test to customer for acknowledgement / acceptance.
•Always be cautious while transferring the cords and lighting used in testing to avoid electrocution.
